Обзорная экскурсия на английском языке
12 декабря учащиеся 8-11-х классов отправились на обзорную экскурсию по Санкт-Петербургу на английском языке.
Учащихся знакомили с основными достопримечательностями Санкт-Петербурга и рассказывали об основных исторических событиях.

I. Introduction. 
What makes St Petersburg look so distinctive? (mini project, make a scheme)

II. History of St Petersburg 
  1. VII-VIII c. – Ilmen Slovens, Ugro – Finish tribes, town Ladoga, Novgorod principality. Alexander Nevsky*s victory over Sweden and German knights of Livon order ( 1240-1242).
  2. End of XVI century, beginning of Swedish invasion of the Neva Lands.
  3. Peter*s the Great intention to gain the lands back. Northern war 1700-1721.
  4. Talk about Peter*s the Great personality, his trip to Europe, his reforms.
  5. Peter*s the Great goals while Founding the new city.
  6. What was Peter*s the Great contribution into development of the country? ( mini – project). 
III. Foundation of the city. Peter*s period - the beginning of the XVIII century. ( min project, draw a map). 
  1. City Island –port. Trinity Square. Peters House .  Give the names of the streets which tell us about the craftsmen*s activity on the Island.
  2. Peter and Paul Fortress, Cronwerk were built to protect the city from Sweden.
  3. Admiralty – shipyard.
  4. St Basil Island – port, political, educational and scientific centre. Stock Exchange. The building of 12 ministries (university) Kunst – Kamer – the first museum in Russia, library, observatory.
  5. Regular planning. City urban planning construction and engineering work ( Leblon, Tresini). Model projects, petrovian baroque style. Summer Palace, Summer Garden, Menshikov palace- the First stone building in the city. 
 
IV.            The city of ensembles ( baroque and classical style).  
  1. Senate Square (Rossi – classical style). Monument to Peter the Great. Decembrist*s uprising.
  2. St Isaac*s Square (stop). St Isaacs Cathedral (history, construction, decoration). Monument to Nicholas 1 Mariinsky Palace (eclectical style).
  3. Admiralty ( Zaharov – classical style).
  4. The Palace Square. General Stuff building (Rossi classical style). Alexander Column – symbol of war 1812. Winter Palace (Rastrelly baroque style).Hermitage (5 buildings). Catherine the Great*s reign – Russia*s golden age.
  5. Palace Embankment.
  6. Marble Palace (Rinaldi classical style).   
  7.  Konyshennaya Square (stop). The Cathedral of Resurrection (history, architecture). The place where Alexander II  was killed.
  8.  The Field of Mars. Summer Garden (Peter the Great).  The Mikhailovsky Castle – residence of Paul.
  9.  Sadovaya street, 
  10. Arts Square (Rossi - classical style). Mikhailovsky Palace (Russian museum).
  11.  Nevsky Prospect. Ostrovsky Square (Rossi ensemble).The Public Library. The Alexandrine Theatre, Rossi Street, Monument to Catherine the Great.
  12.  Nevsky Prospect. Anichkov Palace (History, architecture, Elizabeth*s Reign). Anichkov bridge. Fontanka River. Palaces : Sheremetev Palace, Belozersky-Beloselsky Palace (architect Stackenshneider- eclectical. 
  13.  Vosstania Square. Moscow Railway Station. The monument in honour of the 40th anniversary of the Victory of the Russian people over the fashist army (the siege)
  14.  Ligovsky Prospect – the former canal – waters upply system.
  15. Suvorovsky Prospect. 
  16. The Smolny Institute – architect Quarenghy – classical style. The first school for girls of noble birth, established by Catherine the Great.
  17.  The Smolny Cathedral (stop). Architect Rastrelly (baroque style). The history, architecture. Elizabeth*s reign.
